Two penguins were born at the Ukrainian station „Akademik Vernadsky” in Antarctica. One at Marina, near the station, and the other at Penguin Point. This was reported by the National Antarctic Science Center on Facebook. „Now the kids are funny and awkward, and instead of the usual black and white feathers, they are covered with gray fluff,” the message says. Babies are cubs of a subantarctic penguin or djentu. The animals will stay in the nest for the first month. They will be taken care of by their parents: they will be fed and warmed. „By the way, as in the situation with incubation of eggs, a pair of penguins do it in turn. While one sits on the nest, the other goes to the ocean to hunt krill. And after a few days they change,” the message added. After about a month, the animals will begin to shed and change color. They will also leave the nests and gather in the „nursery”. During this time, both parents will be able to go to the ocean for krill at the same time and will continue to feed their children. “It is interesting that they unmistakably find their cubs in the nursery and share food only with them,” the polar explorers noted. Only after the end of molting will penguins learn to swim in the ocean and get food on their own. By that time, they will already be the size of their parents. Penguins started nesting at the station quite early this year. The first eggs were laid in early November, although earlier this happened closer to mid-November. Accordingly, the babies appeared earlier than usual
